Xiaomi Phone 2: $314 (1999 Yuans) a quad-core processor Android smartphone (available from October2012)

Media_httpcdn3sbnatio_fzaen
via theverge.com

It looks like all standard Smartphones’ design, set by the first Apple iPhone but the chinese Xiaomi Millet 2 (Mi2) breaks technology’s performances & frontiers at low cost.

Powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor (the APQ8064) paired with an Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM, the Mi2 has a 4.3-inch 720p IPS display, and 16GB of internal storage. Imaging duties are taken care of by an 8 megapixel sensor with an f/2.0, 27mm wide-angle lens that can shoot stills at 8 fps (frames per second) and record 1080p video and with also a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The standard 2000mAh battery will hopefully keep the device running through to the end of the day, but Xiaomi will sell you a 3000mAh battery if you don’t mind the added bulk of 2mm extra of the thickness of the Mi2.
HTC (Taiwan), Samsung(Korea), and Apple (as main players now) will have to keep up the challenge with their respective next generation devices, confronting now their technology with the challenging record low price of $314 or €252 (Czk6.200)
This price is half the cost of most US phone models.

1960 Plymouth XNR - a unique assymetric “idea Car” - as it was used to be defined in the 60’s

via youtube.com

When designing was about design. :-)
A unique fully assymetric concept car, with its plain steel body, owned by Virgil Exner then by the Chah from Iran, back from Libanon, and for sale till tomorrow (hopefully).
So if you ‘ve got a couple of bucks to full fill your dream, here the last occasion in Monterey, USA. Just ready to drive.

Steven Johnson: Where Good ideas come from

Thegrandcafe_oxford_uk_gb_facade_frontview
People often credit their ideas to individual “Eureka!” moments. But Steven Johnson shows how history tells a different story. His fascinating tour takes us from the “liquid networks” of London’s coffee houses to Charles Darwin’s long, slow hunch to today’s high-velocity web.

Projet Evian Smart Drop par BETC et Joshfire

via youtube.com

Here is a very interesting concept following the major trends of brands like for example Apple with iTunes, or Nike with its Podometer.

In fact ,this little prospective device, is a révolution. If ready in 2013, It will transform radically the way you consume Mineral water in bottles. In fact, more than just transforming your customers as faithful ones. You will offer them a service.
But keeping the service based on the strict quantity of bottles might not be the right strategy as they ment on their website.

A business based on subscriptions (versus a numeric quantity of bottles) would be more appropriate, in order to install an habit.
This device could actually expand easier for corporate businesses first to mainly test the customers reflex adaptation, and as well to settle a solid minimum business turn-over.

Reliability of the device will be one of the biggest question (batteries, validation & confirmation of the orders, signal availability, out of the delivery regions…) that’s why if the idea will work for corporate businesses then exporting for general public might become more successful.
Let’s hope seriously that deliveries do not work like french postmans are use to do them. In France, today, bought on Internet, goods’ deliveries are more or less broken, being substituted mainly by delivery points instead of domestic addresses. An equation that is far to be solved.

Let’s wish a success, if they hire first an ex logistic quality manager from amazon.fr. It will be anyway worth money and great know-how to learn from.

The Loudness War

via youtube.com

Big-name CD manufacturers are distorting sounds to make them seem louder. Sound quality suffers.

NOTE: Playback is now disabled on mobile phones because these devices apply their own dynamic range compression, which destroys the effect of my example.

This video was made with image editing software and a screen capture program for the visuals, and a DAW (Digital Performer 4.5) to process the audio.

Thanks to everyone for watching! - Matt Mayfield, St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
